When you are reading and find a word or phrase you do not know:
- Try to guess the meaning from the context (i.e. the other words around it). Think also about what part of speech the unknown word is (e.g. a verb, an adjective, a noun..), or whether it is similar to another English word you know, or if it is like a word in your language.
- If you still cannot work out what the word or phrase means, either ignore it and carry on reading or use a dictionary (or glossary if there is one) to help you.
