Uses of A & An

A lot of English students do not know how to use the articles: ”A” & ”’An”. This is very important if you want to speak fluently. There are some tips in this article below.

Articles: A / An 

  • Using A before all consont.  e.i A car / A book.
  • Using An when the word begins with vowel sounds. e.i An old man.

We use A / an with singular coutable nouns:

  • The first thing you mention was a thing or a person. 

e.i I My girlfriend is a chef. / I had an awful day.

  • When you say what something is. 

e.i I am a teacher.  / e.i It is a nice day.
